Saturday 5 March - Shetland v Deeside 12noon KO

Shetland face Deeside in the last home fixture of the season.
Shetland have a full squad to choose from and will be looking for a victory that will hopefully ensure a respectable fifth position in the league.
The league table as at 4 March 2011.

Huntly have had 4 points deducted for failling to fulfill a fixture (knowing what has happened in the past they will probably get the points back!)

Shetland v Lochaber - Regional Bowl

Shetland has had to concede this fixture, as the dry dock scheduling of the ferries meant that this fixture and the next round would be unable to be played in the time scale specified by the SRU.

Sat 12 Feb - Banff 29 Shetland 0

Respectable score against the league leaders.

Ellon 2nd XV 22 - 22 Shetland

As JRN states in the guestbook, an epic performance by the 12 men who travelled to Ellon to face the home side who had just drawn with Aberdeen Wanderers the previous week. The home team equalised with the last play of the game. The match report can be found here.
Shetland still has at least four matches left to play. Away fixtures at Banff (12 feb) and Aberdeen Wanderers (26 march), in between there is a home fixture against Deeside (5 march). In addition there should be a Regional Bowl match, scheduled to be played sometime this decade.

An 'uppy-downy' weekend!

Shetland played host Banff on saturday 22 January, losing the match 12-20. The match report can be found here
The home team scored two tries through Paul Grant and Shane Jamieson, but could not turn their possession into points.
Banff played well in glimpses, but Shetland more than matched the away team who are now second in the league.

That was the 'downy' bit, the 'uppy' bit is that Shetland crushed Aberdeen Wanderers 1-0 in the 1st round of the Regional Bowl. Shetland have still not won an actual match in a cup competition, but we are now in the second round.
Not everyone believes that Wanderers conceded due to fixtue congestion, but here is the evidence from the SRU site.

Still a large backlog of round 1 fixtures to be played, so second round draw has not been made.

Festive Fixtures

Sun 26th Dec 12:00 KO Young V's Old - Won by the Youngsters 8 tries to 5
Sun 02nd Jan 12:00 KO Young V's Old - A glorius day for the proud history of world rugby, as the Youngsters were destroyed by their slightly more mature opponents. The weight of their acne was too much of an obstacle to overcome as the Oldies ran straight lines and won convincingly 48-28.
There can be no excuses from the Youngsters, eventhough they could claim that the Oldies had an extra player, as Hughie appeared during the second half.

Sat. 6 November - Shetland 10 Aberdeenshire 2ndXV 25

A positive spin to put on the result would be that Aberdeenshire won the first half, Shetland the second.
In front of a healthy home crowd Shetland huffed and puffed and then eventaully managed to score after more than two hours playing against Aberdeenshire without success. In the last quarter of the match Shetland played better, scoring tries through Connell Gresham and Maurice Williamson. For the first 60 minutes it was the story of the Shetland season at home, where Shetland had their fair share of the ball but simply could not do much with it.
The next fixture is away to Banff (27th November) before facing Aberdeen Wanderers at home in the Regional Bowl Cup Competition on saturday 4th December.

Sat. 30 October - Aberdeenshire 2ndXV 98 Shetland 0

After an encouraging performance against Garioch the previous week Shetland must have travelled down to Aberdeen with a certain amount of confidence. Unfortunately they met a strong Aberdeenshire team and, by all accounts, simply did not compete.
