Shetland RFC proud to announce their sponsorship with Northwards

Forthcoming Event
Senior training tuesday and thursday 6.30 at Clickimin. Junior training started on saturday mornings.

Saturday 8 November- Scottish Hydro Electric National Cup 2008-09 Round 1 - Arbroath v Shetland

A list of fixtures for the forthcoming season can be found here.
Shetland travel to Arbroath this weekend to take on a team who are having a similar season to ourselves having only won a single league fixture.
The winners of this match will face the winners of Waid v St. Andrews University away in round 2, which is due to be played on 22 november.
The losers will enter the draw for the shield or plate or bowl or something like that. The match is scheduled for a 12 noon kick-off.

Saturday 1 November- Shetland 0 v 27 Huntly

A spirited Shetland performance stilled lacked a cutting edge against a will drilled Huntly team.
Shetland had a share of the ball but could not convert any pressure into points.

Last weekends results:

This weekends fixtures:

West Dyce 0 v 46 Banff
Shetland 0 v 27 Huntly

Huntly v Inverness CD
Banff v Lochaber
Blairgowrie v Aberdeen Wanderers

Been around the world!

In a moment (in fact several minutes) of madness, I worked out the distance that Shetland RFC has travelled from Lerwick, in league and cup matches, since our probationary season back in 2003/4.
Having fulfilled our away fixtures this season the grand total of miles covered is some 26,093 miles in less than 5 seasons. Which is a couple of thousand more miles than the circumference of the earth round the equator.

Young people, old people.....

News:

Just in case you were wondering!

In a moment of boredom I wondered if Mike Skinners televised figure for "this is the distance we will travel our away matches" was correct.
Mr. Skinner pulled the figure of 5000 miles out of the air, but he underestimated.
The actual distance from Lerwick (according to www.theAA.com) for 9 away matches was 6350 miles.

the thoughts of the evergreen Mr Michael Skinner.

Orkney has a furthest travelled ORFC shirt competition.
Below we see the SRFC President wearing his shirt with I believe Cullivoe in the background.

I believe that Forbes also made a new signing during his travels - some Aussie bloke who said "Shetland is the only team I've ever wanted to play for".
